These terms govern your use of networkingsignal.com. By reading, using our tools or leaving a comment, you accept them. If you do not accept them, please do not use the site.

Networking Signal is published by Jaspreet Singh and Gurpreet Singh. In these terms, “we”, “us” and “our” mean Networking Signal, and “you” means the person using the site.

1. What this site is

Networking Signal publishes free educational articles, troubleshooting guides, product comparisons and browser based calculators about computer networking. Everything is free to read and free to use. We do not sell products, subscriptions or services through this site.

2. Use of the site

You may read our articles, use our tools, print pages for your own reference and share links to them. You agree not to:

Use the site for any unlawful purpose or in a way that breaks any applicable law or regulation.
Attempt to gain unauthorised access to the site, its server, or any connected system.
Introduce malware, attempt to overload the site, or interfere with its normal operation.
Scrape or copy the site at scale, whether by automated means or otherwise, for republication.
Use any technique described on this site to attack, intercept or interfere with a network you do not own or do not have written permission to test.

That last point matters. Some of our articles explain how network protocols can be observed or misused, because you cannot defend a network you do not understand. That material is published for education and for defensive use. What you do with it is your responsibility, not ours.

3. Accuracy and no professional advice

We work hard to be accurate, we test what we publish and we correct what we get wrong. Even so, the content on this site is provided for general information and education. It is not professional advice for your specific network.

Networking is context dependent. A configuration that is correct on one platform, firmware version or topology can be wrong or harmful on another. Before you apply anything from this site to a production network, you should understand what it does, take a backup, and where the stakes are high, get advice from a qualified professional who can see your actual environment.

Vendors change defaults, retire features and revise documentation. Prices and product availability change constantly. We cannot guarantee that every article reflects the current state of every product at the moment you read it.

4. Our tools

The calculators on this site run entirely in your browser. They do not send your input to us or to anyone else, and we do not record what you type into them. They are provided as a convenience and are given without warranty of any kind. Check any result that matters before you act on it. We are not liable for a decision made on the basis of a calculator output.

5. Intellectual property

All original text, diagrams, illustrations, code and tools on this site are the property of Networking Signal and its authors, and are protected by copyright.

You may quote a short extract with clear attribution and a working link back to the original article. You may not republish an article in full, translate it, spin it, feed it into a derivative work presented as original, or reproduce our diagrams and tools, without our written permission.

Product names, trademarks and logos mentioned on this site belong to their respective owners. We use them for identification and commentary. Their appearance here does not imply any endorsement, partnership or affiliation.

6. Comments and contributions

Where comments are open, you are responsible for what you post. Do not post anything unlawful, abusive, deceptive, or infringing on someone else’s rights, and do not post spam or promotional links. We may edit, refuse or remove any comment for any reason, and we are under no obligation to explain why.

By submitting a comment or a contributed article, you grant us a non exclusive, royalty free, perpetual licence to publish, store, edit and display it on this site. You confirm that the material is yours and that publishing it does not infringe anyone else’s rights.

7. Advertising and affiliate links

This site carries advertising served by Google AdSense and contains affiliate links, principally to Amazon. We may earn money when you view an advert or buy through one of our links. This never changes what we recommend. See our affiliate disclosure and editorial policy.

8. External links

We link to manufacturer documentation, standards bodies, retailers and other resources. We do not control those sites, we do not endorse everything on them, and we are not responsible for their content, their accuracy or their privacy practices. Once you leave networkingsignal.com, these terms no longer apply.

9. Availability

We try to keep the site online and working, but we do not promise uninterrupted availability. We may change, suspend, restructure or withdraw any part of the site, including any article or tool, at any time and without notice.

10. Limitation of liability

The site and everything on it are provided on an “as is” and “as available” basis, without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including any implied warranty of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose or non infringement.

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Networking Signal and its authors are not liable for any loss or damage arising from your use of this site or from anything you do on the basis of its content. That includes loss of data, loss of profit, network downtime, damage to equipment and any indirect or consequential loss.

Nothing in these terms excludes or limits liability where it would be unlawful to do so.

11. Indemnity

You agree to indemnify Networking Signal and its authors against any claim, loss or expense arising from your breach of these terms or from your misuse of the site.

12. Privacy

How we handle your data is set out in our privacy policy and our cookie policy, both of which form part of these terms.

13. Changes to these terms

We may revise these terms. The revised version applies from the moment it is published, and the date at the top shows when that was. Continuing to use the site after a change means you accept the new terms.

14. Severability

If any provision of these terms is found to be unenforceable, that provision is severed and the remainder continues in force.
